In recent years, Connor Daly Construction has observed a significant shift in the types of properties seeking seismic retrofits. While single-family homes and multi-unit apartment buildings have traditionally been the focus, there’s a noticeable increase in interest from duplexes, triplexes, and even four-unit buildings.
“Over the past five, 10 years, the majority of our retrofit work has been in single-family homes and multi-unit apartment buildings,” shares Connor Daly, the owner. However, he notes a growing trend: “I’m starting to get a lot more calls from duplexes, triplexes, even four-unit buildings.”
This shift is driven by heightened awareness of earthquake risks. “These are buildings that aren’t mandated to do the work, but it’s on their mind,” Connor explains. Owners are increasingly recognizing the importance of proactive safety measures.
Previously, projects often stalled due to misalignment among owners. “A lot of the times in those situations, all of the owners would not be aligned,” Connor recalls. But today, there’s a collective understanding of the risks and benefits, leading to more successful retrofits.
Connor Daly Construction is committed to guiding property owners through this process, ensuring safety and peace of mind. “We’re doing a lot more work in duplexes and triplexes these days,” Connor confirms.
